last night we were at the aquarium again to continue with the recording process of our EP. rica tried to re-record the drum track for "restless" but we all felt that she was too tired or drained to do so. the energy level just wasnt there. so i asked her to pack her bags and stop.

i then set up my effects and started to record the guitar tracks for "bittersweet". i first layed in the clean/delay parts. i asked monty if i could run through the song first before recording. i was quite surprised i finished that track in only one try. astig. next up was the distortion parts and the solo for the song. i still havent found the right sound that i want..the right crunch, the right noise for the distortion parts. nonetheless...i still recorded. i made a few mistakes but monty says that those can be remedied during mixing. i think i will re-record that part since i have a few changes to the solo. (nakanampota! solo! hahaha!)

monty suggested that i put ambient sounds to the songs. actually, i was thinking of making one for "perfect day". which is obviously...needed in the song. hehehe! but thinking about it last night, i think i do need to make one for "bittersweet" and "fed up". althought im thinking more of a coldplay approach for "fed up".

lara then layed in the vocal tracks for the song...but i think we're going to do everything again. i wasnt quite satisfied with how we ended up last night...but it was quite a productive evening nonetheless.

haaaay...we're still a long way to go...pero sana talaga maayos na to.

im still trying to look for a graphic artist who is willing to do our inlay. if all else fails...kelangan ko na talaga sipagan. otherwise...sino pa ang gagawa nun?!

ayus. sasali na kami ng bandfest or battle of the bands. tentative sched ng set namin is on april 8 at the food odyssey ng lkg tower. im really not keen on joining battle of the bands or contests pero sige, i'll give this a freaking shot. medyo napaisip ako nung kinausap kami ni monty about joining the red horse musiklaban. wala lang. malay mo nga naman. kung manalo ka...that's the chance to be heard na. to be able to do what you always dreamt of doing. astig.

this morning...i discovered that the band paramita has a soundclick account. astiiiiiiiig....kelan kaya lalabas album nito? this is ria's (the drummer who is formerly from the band a murder of crows) new band. try listening to them. great great songs...as i've always said...love your own. there's always a soft spot for girl fronted bands cause i'm in one too. hahaha!

kung wala kayong gagawin sa april 8...drop by lkg and support us. tomorrow...another session in recording. sana wala na kaming distractions sa recording para dirediretso na. i've been itching to get that damn EP out. hehehe. pero syempre, i dont want to sacrifice the quality of the music.

whattaaaaa week

whew. daming nangyari last week na parang hindi. went to puerto del sol nung tuesday and wednesday...then nette and i watched a few dvds sa house nung thursday. nung friday naman, went to barry's house to catch up with some high school friends. saturday, swam with nette sa pool sa clubhouse ng village nila tapos sunday...recording kina monty.

we finished recording for "fed up". feeling ko, may kulang. i think i really need to sit down and look for some more riffs for our songs. i sent a couple of my friends a mp3 copy of the rough mix. di pa totally ayus. yung distortions di pa evident...yung delay sa vocals ni lara, masyadong mahaba...and i need to lay in back up vocals for it too. hopefully by wednesday maayos na.

here's one critique from an officemate who was a former teacher at comsci in dlsu who also had a band during his younger years...

Here's my attempt of an objective critique... :-)

It is often said that the first time when done right is always memorable - this is certainly the case of Fed Up, the first effort of an up and comer - Suspicious Character. This song reminds one of the heydays of early 90's pop - refreshing, catchy and a soft but memorable vocal. The female vocalist reminds me of a young Natalie Merchant, without the grit and angst of the latter day 10,000 maniacs. The melody - with its simple rhythm guitar and flawless bassline - evokes memories of Moonpools and Caterpillars during their garage days. Well written and arranged song. Here's the bad news: a good guitar (or even a bass) riff before the last refrain would make this song kick ass, and the vocals can also be arranged further to bring out the full capabilities of the female alto voice - it actually sound mid-alto and soprano, which will be tricky - again... Natalie Merchant. Backing vocals would be nice too... A "B" effort in the end, bring me more!

btw...mark also gave me a copy of hiraya's soon to be released EP. pota. this EP kicks some serious ass. i just hope they get their wits together and release it real soon. funny...isang riff sa "san libong itim na dahon" parang intro ng hale...pero that song is around 2-3 years old already...and hale is what?!...8 months i think? wala lang. sayang lang, baka makarinig ka ng mga "uy, hale na riff yan ah!" hahaha...gotta get that EP out man.

ewan ko...pero the first time i heard this song...it blew me away. lupet talaga ng sati. hail cebuanos. hindi naman overly malupet yung song pero i like the riffs. i like the lyrics.

which leads me to...this half a year slump i have been already. i've been itching to write something up but it seems na wala talaga. walang lumalabas sa daliri ko...walang lumalabas sa utak ko. something tells me that i might come up with something very very soon.

we watched mayo, bobby park's movement, severo, monkeyspank, and hale last night at saguijo. lupet. jampacked. congrats to monty and zach for a successful prod.

oks ang hale, first time ko sila napanuod kagabi ng live. kagabi ko lang sila natripan. hindi ko kasi masyado trip yung "broken sonnet (aka i'll be ni edwin mccain, hahaha!)". pero nagustuhan ko yung ibang orig nila. galing at ang gaganda ng mga riffs, tight pa....as tight as a virgin pussy. hahaha! joke lang. i was also really impressed dun sa guitarist and bassist nila. galing. tight tight tight set. great cover of trouble by coldplay. this band will go places. astig.

talked to lee and vida about renting their equipment for another possible bembang production. sana matuloy na to. hirap talaga ng walang pera. olats.

minnesota lost to miami by 13 points. hahaha! talo pa rin mga pumusta sa minny...9 pts lang yung spread eh. cant wait for the odds today...sana may ok ulit akong gut feel para may extra cash ulit ako. :D

last night, jc and i went to sta. mesa to check out a boss turbo overdrive. as expected, it looked banged up but it wasnt as banged up as i thought it would be, it also lacked a knob but it sounded really nice so jc and i still bought it. one of these days, i'll be heading to raon to look for knobs for the turbo overdrive.
